Ohio's southwest region is a hotbed for the pharmaceutical sector of the bioscience industry. Regional anchor Cincinnati is home to the headquarters of consumer and pharmaceutical product developer and manufacturer Procter & Gamble Co. as well as the Genome Research Institute, a world-class research center dedicated to the discovery and early development of novel and commercially viable therapeutic applications.

Ohio's business climate, including its recent tax reform, was a favorable influence on Amylin's decision to move to Ohio," says Ginger L. Graham, president and CEO of Amylin Pharmaceuticals, which is establishing a $70 million pharmaceutical production facility in West Chester for a product candidate in development for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Southwest Ohio also encompasses more broadly defined chemical applications employment ranging from alternative fuels to plastics. The region is home to the Wright Center of Innovation and The Center for Computational Medicine, partnering with microtechnology industry leaders.

Southwest Ohio is a leader in the food processing industry. Harkening back to Cincinnati's roots as a pork-processing center, the city is now host to food industry leaders including Chiquita Brands International and The Kroger Co. Southwest Ohio also is a strong financial services center, with Fifth Third Bancorp, American Financial, Western & Southern Financial and Ohio Casualty Group headquartered in the Cincinnati area.

We are home to two professional sports teams, the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals. The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is among the top 10 in the United States for direct transatlantic flights. It also provides same-day service to over 70 cities in the U.S. The airport is only 15 minutes from downtown Cincinnati and less than 30 minutes from most of our county locations. Interstates, rail and the Ohio River system also offer transportation options to growing companies.
