Ohio's northeast region is anchored by Cleveland with subsidiary major metros of Akron-Canton and Youngstown. Northeast Ohio's strength in advanced manufacturing, combined with cutting-edge research and technology sectors, maximizes the region's strength in bioscience, polymers, aerospace and other technology-driven fields including IT.

Home to the premiere institutions including the NASA Glenn Research Center, Wright Center for Innovation, The Center for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine and the University of Akron's world-class polymers programs, Northeast Ohio also hosts more than half of the state's bioscience organizations and is the longtime hub of the state's polymer industry due to historic ties with Akron industry giant Goodyear Tire & Rubber.

"We brought our light-controlling technology to market much more quickly with help from Ohio," says Bahman Taheri, Ph.D., CEO of Kent-based AlphaMicron, Inc. The company generated one of the latest advances in polymer commercial applications, eyewear that allows electronic adjustment to the amount of light admitted, with assistance from an Ohio grant.
